Lathes:
It is a privilege to have three VB36 lathes available for my course participants. This is the finest bowl and vessel lathe ever made and a dream for beginners and the more experienced alike. Also you will find four of my own custom built lathes based on the 'Moulthrop' design. Also the Hegner HDB200XL. Another fine lathe, smaller than the others but very solid - a benchmark lathe of it's kind and one that everyone is familiar with. All the lathes are solid machines to give my students the best opportunities possible. Only the best will do! This is a major advantage especially for beginners as it takes out of the equation the doubt about whether it is the student who is at fault or the lathe! On returning home many existing problems with lathes can be quickly dealt with, with a new understanding.

All lathes used by course participants have both electronic variable speed and remote switching. This increases the safety aspect of using lathes and verges on luxury. If only all lathes had these facilities! All the work achieved on the courses can be done on smaller lathes at home, though there maybe a need to reduce the size of wood, size and speed of cut to suit the individual lathe.

Tools:
You will not only use a conventional bevel gouge of the kind almost all turners have used at some time of their turning lives, but also very much my internationally recognised special grinds, advanced and uniquely designed angle tools, shaper/parting tools and the now universally accepted 'Irish Grind'.
Exciting discoveries to be made
